New Jersey Wish Kid Receives Personal Playset Courtesy of Jersey Mike's

The highlight of many children’s summers are playing outside on a swing set with your family and friends. The freedom that soaring on a swing creates, seeing who can go the highest, is unmatched. This freedom is taken for granted when you learn about the children that live with circumstances that may prevent them from experiencing it. Luckily, organizations like Make-A-Wish are combating these circumstances and helping these children take back their childhood.

Gabriella of Paramus, New Jersey, had her wish to have an accessible playset in her backyard granted by Make-A-Wish New Jersey. Gabriella was born with a brain injury and was diagnosed with a life-threatening respiratory disease that requires her to have 24-hour medical care. Due to Gabriella’s condition, playing on regular playsets proved to be a near impossible task. Her mother, Laura, saw how happy she was playing on her school’s accessible playground and thought that having her very own would be a source of happiness and strength. Laura is grateful to Make-a-Wish for creating a way for Gabriella to play with her siblings.

This wish was made possible by the popular sandwich chain, Jersey Mike’s, whose “Month of Giving” campaign raised over $458,000 for Make-A-Wish New Jersey. 67 locations across the state ran this month long giving initiative, ending with a “Day of Giving” where the stores gave 100% of the day’s sales directly to the cause. This campaign raised enough money to grant 50 wishes. That’s 50 children like Gabriella who will be able to have their wishes come true!
