Make-A-Wish Connecticut Celebrates 20 Years of Wishes on Wheels

Make-A-Wish Connecticut held it’s 20th annual Wishes on Wheels event. Over 200 volunteers came out to make sure around 250 wish kids, past and present, enjoyed all of the things this event has to offer. It features Blackhawk helicopters, trucks, tractor trailers, and many different carnival rides. It’s an amazing opportunity for current wish kids and their families to connect with those who have already received their wishes, and to meet others who have gone through similar experiences of having a young loved one with a life-threatening medical condition.

This year was Kelsey Otero’s first year attending this event, and it moved her to tears the second she walked in. Her daughter Leilani’s wish was to visit Disney World. Otero told reporters that it’s nice to be around others who know what you’re going through, and what you still may be going through since some parents will have to deal with the struggles of having a sick child for the rest of their lives.

President of Make-A-Wish Connecticut, Pam Keough knows that events like this is something small that the organization can do that means a lot to the families that the organization helps. She was briefly interviewed by Leilani, who wants to be a reporter when she grows up! When asked what her favorite color is, Keough replied, “Make-A-Wish blue”.
